This course has been specifically developed for individuals who are unemployed and wish to pursue a career within, the construction sector. It aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge required for successful entry into construction roles. By focusing on safe working practices, the course ensures that learners are thoroughly prepared to carry out their responsibilities in a manner that prioritises safety and compliance with industry standards. It not only enhances individuals' knowledge but promotes a culture of safety within the construction industry.
Prosp Aims
Through this course you will learn about the following topics: Legal Duties and Responsibilities – Understanding the legal framework around health and safety in construction. Common Hazards and Risks - identifying potential hazards on construction sites and understanding risk management practices. Safe manual handling – Learning proper techniques to handle materials safely and to prevent injuries. Working safely at height – Guidelines and practices for working at elevated levels safely. Teamwork and communication - the importance of effective communication and teamwork in maintaining a safe working environment. Construction job opportunities - how to find and apply for local construction job roles, what job roles will suit you and what your progression opportunities are.
Prosp Objectives
No previous knowledge or experience within the construction or health and safety industries is required. However if you do have existing experience or knowledge we will review this with you during enrolment to ensure that this does not preclude you from the course.
Prosp Requirements
Entry level roles on a construction site: Labourer, Site Operative, Site Cleaner, General Construction Assistant. With onsite experience and additional short courses you could move into specialist roles such as: Traffic Marshal/Banksman, Demolition Operative, Plant Operator (would require CPCS or NPORS licences/tickets). Construction apprenticeships or courses for qualifications in trade skills such as: Bricklaying, Carpentry, Electrical Installations, Plumbing, Painting and Decorating, Groundworks. With trade skills you can then apply for the Blue Skilled Worker Construction Card and the Green Card opens access to apprenticeships as the next step. Move into a health and safety specialism roles for example as a health and safety officer or safety advisor within construction, and undertake courses such as the following: NEBOSH qualifications, CITB Site Safety Plus Course.
